Mulberry Tree (October 1889) by Vincent Van Gogh

One day in Los Angeles, I was thinking of places to travel, things to see. Mulberry Tree by Van Gogh has always been a favorite painting of mine, by a favorite painter of mine. I dreamed of going to the Netherlands, of walking into a museum in Amsterdam or Haarlem, of seeing it in person. So, I searched online to see where this painting was located.

Turns out, it was only 18 miles away in Pasadena. Mind-blown, I got in my car and went to it, saw it probably 40 minutes after having the initial thought, that same day. I spent about an hour with it. I went back to see it a few more times while I lived nearby. Next time I visit LA, I will go again. In person, this artwork calls to me. Even now, as I write about it, I remember standing with it and want to go to it.

The Norton Simon Museum website has a great page dedicated to the painting and I enjoy clicking through to the painting itself, where I can zoom in extremely closely to see the painting in detail. I can do the ten-minute challenge via this site as well. I like to visit this meditative island tucked in a corner of the web.

And that's all. Try to find something you like and go to it today, spend time with it. I have thoughts about this artwork, but I'll keep them to myself. Let me know if you want to hear them. If you visit the site and have some of your own, please share them with me.

indoor animal is curated by a human: Tim Papciak. On Mondays, he shares one link to one music video to help spark creativity in himself and in other creative types. On Thursdays, he recommends a book, movie, show, art piece, or link to some dusty corner of the internet that he believes either 1.) adds to the human experience, or 2.) serves as a coping mechanism in the year 2025. Note: this is not, and never will be, self-help content.
