music video monday ~ 21

Was lucky to see Vampire Weekend do their thing in Pittsburgh last week...

They're one of my favorite bands, and their most recent album – Only God Was Above Us – solidified that for me. There's so much understanding, hope (there's literally a tracked called "Hope"), and maturity to it. The music video I chose today is for the song "Capricorn", the first song released from said album. It has a line repeated, or at least a close variation of the line, that I want to share:
I know you're tired of tryin'
listen clearly, you don't have to try

Even I'll repeat it:
I know you're tired of tryin'
listen clearly, you don't have to try
This line oozes compassion and grace, in my opinion. What more can you do for another person than give them a break and let them be? Aren't we all tired of trying sometimes, if not all the times? Don't we all want permission to let our guard down, to stop pushing so hard toward some distant horizon, or to stop grabbing for control of every situation? Nobody? Just me? Whatever...
I guess just enjoy the video and its fast-paced mashup of archival footage of 1980s and 1990s NYC with abstract imagery and its ending in a packed hall, which I don't fully understand. And remember: you don't have to try.
Vampire Weekend - "Capricorn" (Dir. Nick Harwood)
indoor animal is curated by a human: Tim Papciak. On Mondays, he shares one link to one music video to help spark creativity in himself and in other creative types. On Thursdays, he recommends a book, movie, show, art piece, or link to some dusty corner of the internet that he believes either 1.) adds to the human experience, or 2.) serves as a coping mechanism in the year 2025. Note: this is not, and never will be, self-help content.
