music video monday ~ 26

Though it is about Southern California, today's video completely encapsulates how this summer in Pittsburgh has felt the past few weeks. Directed by Spike Jonze*, the video for Wax's song "California" may be one of many things that influenced me to move out west after college. The 90s in Los Angeles still hold a special place in my heart: skate culture, surf culture, independent filmmaking, the Pacific Ocean, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Encino Man, Clueless, The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink, and too many other things to list. I get that that decade in that city wasn't all sunshine and lollipops, but the place definitely had a vibe and grabbed for the attention of a landlocked kid living on the far east side of the Midwest. Oh and, happy Monday!
Wax - "California" (Dir. Spike Jonze)
* I could share Spike Jonze videos for months and never run out. Maybe I will some day. His movies aren't bad either. And to think he got his start finding a thing he liked – skating – and just pointing a camera at it unashamedly for years. Maybe there's some wisdom there.
indoor animal is curated by a human: Tim Papciak. On Mondays, he shares one link to one music video to help spark creativity in himself and in other creative types. On Thursdays, he recommends a book, movie, show, art piece, or link to some dusty corner of the internet that he believes either 1.) adds to the human experience, or 2.) serves as a coping mechanism in the year 2025. Note: this is not, and never will be, self-help content.
