music video monday ~ 7
If they saw my face / Could I still take a bow?

Today, I want to offer up a challenge in addition to the video below. This musician makes me think about creative types. It's hard to create. It's hard to be authentic. It's hard to find inspiration. It's hard to go on. It's hard when you're doing it alone. This list could keep going forever, but you get it.

So, today, find an artist and give them a hug or a pat on the back or just send them a message of appreciation. There's a good chance they need it – and maybe it is the thing that keeps them going so that they can put out something truly original.

Back to the video... I learned about Klaus Nomi from a book (noticing a theme here?). It was The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone by Olivia Laing. After reading the section on Nomi, I had to look him up. It was worth it. Then, I was watching the SNL 50 Music documentary and it showed a David Bowie set and... there was Nomi – literally carrying David Bowie!

Will the human race / With their collective brow / Will they know me / Know me, know me now?

The music video I'm sharing today – Klaus Nomi - Nomi Song – has a catchy tune, delightfully 80's graphics, and Nomi's unexpected voice. Plus his name is Nomi and he rhymes it with "know me." Classic. He was an authentic person, a truly one-of-a-kind artist.

Now I'm all alone / It's like some kind of test / My, how I have grown / Will they know me now?

Enjoy the video and then get out there and hug an artist!
