music video monday ~ 37

Always been a fan of JGL. Always thought that a movie or show highlighting DIY music-making with today's modern tech and toys would be great. (I actually developed a feature about this with an exec from Live Nation Ent. at one point. The idea was set in New Orleans and it was about a mom trying to reclaim her former glory by making music at home once her son fled the nest for college. It was called Delta Tiger. Unfortunately, the pandemic changed everything and shut it down.) Thankfully, both a movie and a show since then focused on the interesting visuals and fun I had in mind: Flora and Son and Mr. Corman. And as a bonus to us, JGL is in both.

Mr. Corman focused on a school teacher struggling during the pandemic to find connection with those around him, most of all within the relationships already established in his life. It's a slow burn that touches on some mental health stuff. The final song, which may or may not be titled "Now. Here. This.," is what I want to share today. It's the culmination of a long emotional journey and it is fun to see how some sounds and visuals from throughout the series are brought together in the final edit. It's emotional to say the least. Most importantly for a film or show like this is that the music must hold up against other mainstream music. This song does so even though it's sort of experimental. But, it's still catchy and I find myself repeating the title-slash-grounding-mantra, "Now. Here. This.," throughout my day. And now you can too!
Mr. Corman - Episode 10 "The Big Picture" (Dir. Joseph Gordon-Levitt)
indoor animal is curated by a human: Tim Papciak. On Mondays, he shares one link to one music video to help spark creativity in himself and in other creative types. On Thursdays, he recommends a book, movie, show, art piece, or link to some dusty corner of the internet that he believes either 1.) adds to the human experience, or 2.) serves as a coping mechanism in the year 2025. Note: this is not, and never will be, self-help content.
